Making a Teepee is a simple task that doesn’t require too much practice.

In the following paragraphs, we will explain to you how you can make a teepee easily at home.

MATERIALS REQUIRED TO MAKE A TEEPEE

1. Canvas, tarp or any other suitable material. The length should be twice as much as the width.

2. Scissors/Knife

3. 12 poles at least 3ft longer then the width of the teepee cover.

4. Strong rope or cord.

METHOD

1. Cut the teepee cover into a semicircular shape using the scissors. Also make two flaps in the cover, to be used as smoke flaps.

2. On each end of the teepee cover, cut out a portion that is in the shape of a semicircle in such a way that when the two ends are brought together, they make a circular opening that can be used as a door.

3. Stitch a conical section of canvas just below each of the smoke flaps to make small pockets.

4. Next, hem a rope along the bottom side of the teepee cover making loops at equal intervals so that it can be fastened to the poles. The number of loops should be equal to the number of poles.

5. Make three of the poles into a tripod by tying one end together and spacing the other ends at equal distances. Then, place the rest of the poles against the tripod to get a rough conical shape.

6. Pull the teepee cover over the frame in such a way that it forms a circle at the bottom. Place each of the poles into the loops in the rope at the bottom of the teepee cover. Tie the cover at the joint of the poles on top, to fasten it. Spread all the poles as far as possible and peg them to the ground.

7. Insert two small poles into the conical pockets under the smoke flaps in order to keep them open.

Your teepee is now ready for use.
